Committees

Standards

The Standards Committee provides oversight and reports to the Board of Directors regarding ongoing standards activity. The 7 existing standards are on a 5-year renewal cycle, which is stringently enforced per ANSI guidelines. Currently two new standards are in the development process, which are also monitored by the Standards Committee.

Currently the Chair of the Standards Committee is also the Vice-Chair of the A14 Committee, providing a valuable collaboration among ALI and the A14 Committee.

Product Liability

The Product Liability Committee tracks and reports to the Board of Directors on activities and trends regarding litigation in the ladder industry. Liability cases have been significantly reduced over the last ten years, in part due to the efforts and success of the ALI. The ladder industry has successfully defended against claims, in many instances by utilizing the standards as support.

Conference

The Conference Committee selects sites for the ALI’s two annual conferences, and determines speakers and educational content for the meetings. The Committee is focused on maximizing the networking opportunities of the conferences and return on investment for our educational sessions.

Education

The Education Committee is responsible for development & dissemination of ALI’s training material. Recently this Committee has been responsible for the creation of the new training website, Ladder Safety.org, which features ladder safety information in a user-friendly manner. Information is based on the content of the standards, in a less technical manner.

Currently in development is a Multimedia Online Training Program, a major initiative for ALI. This training program will be used by employers, unions, contractors and the telecommunications industry to teach ladder safety to trades people. Organized by ladder type, multiple modules will be offered to train users in the proper selection, care and safe use of ladders.

Material Supply

The Material Supply Committee is responsible for tracking and communicating current activity and trends for the materials involved in ladder production. Valuable information is shared among the members regarding availability and cost of materials, as well as current transportation trends.
